On Sunday (19th of February), the Sailing Equipment and Water Sports Fair in Poznań, Boatex 2017, came to an end. During the three-days trade show not only magnificent motorboats have been presented but also kayaks, pontoons, surfboards, as well as sportswear and sailing accessories. Numerous offers on leisure water activities have also been presented.
An important part of the Boatex Fair has been the program of accompanying events, which gave the local governments and charter companies the opportunity to present educational blocks, lectures and workshops as well as to introduce the last offer on tourist products, in order to encourage more people to practice water tourism.
There has been also a promotional stand of the International Waterway E70, which appeared with a new design this year. At the stand, the recreational values of the waterway between the Oder River and the Vistula Lagoon were presented. The MDW E70 stand attracted much attention from visitors who were surprised by the new image of the exposition, including the waterway route map and the promotional film.
The state-municipal cooperation towards revitalization of E70 International Waterway, summary of the execution of operations in 2016, and the plan for 2017 in terms of the execution of the E70 International Waterway agreements were the main subjects discussed at the meeting of the E70 International Waterway Committee held on December 19th, 2016, in Torun. The Committee was joined by Lukasz Pieron, a representative of the Ministry of Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation, who presented the status of the execution of plans for the development of inland navigation in Poland, and the ministry's plans for Polish waterways revitalization in the upcoming years.
One of the Ministry's key operations lately was the organization of the first session of the Steering Committee for Inland Waterway Investments, at which the members adopted a statute, discussed the results of the stock-taking and the department's operations related to restoration of navigability on the waterways, and appointed a working group of the Steering Committee. The next meeting of the working group of the Steering Committee has been scheduled for January 2017. The representative of Ministry of Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation announced that the Sejm adopted the law ratifying the AGN Convention which would go to the Senate. Currently, changes to the existing Water Law and preparation to draw up a feasibility study for the planned development of waterways in Poland.
The Pomerania Province summarized the operations conducted in 2016 on the basis of the financial means provided by the signatories of the interprovincial agreements, including Lubuskie, Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Wielkopolskie, and Warminsko-Mazurskie Province for revitalization of the waterway connecting the Oder and the Vistula with the Vistula Lagoon. Plans for the upcoming joint informational and promotional activities concerning the Polish section of the E70 International Waterway were discussed: the E70 International Waterway offer at the water tourism trade fairs in Warsaw, Poznan, Katowice, Szczecin, Nadarzyn, and Berlin. Moreover, a range of common activities related to the continuation of the promotional campaign of the Polish section of the E70 International Waterway in terms of organization of conferences, rallies, promotional materials and other publications printing, as well as of activities related to the involvement of the provinces in the revitalization of the transportation of the planned E70 International Waterway in the Polish section.
The E70 International Waterway was presented at a joint national booth alongside the offers of other regions during Boot & Fun Berlin 2016 trade fair held on November 23rd-27th, 2016.
After Düsseldorf, Boot & Fun Berlin is the second most important water tourism fair in Germany. That year the fair was attended by 700 exhibitors from 15 countries, who promoted not only luxurious yachts, kayaks or houseboats, but also offers related to fishing, among others. According to the organizers' estimates, the fair was visited by 42,000 people and over 550 boats were purchased.
The interest in water tourism in Germany is huge. Germans are eager to spend their free time on the water and the dynamic development of Polish marinas encourages such practice of tourism also in Poland.
The E70 International Waterway offer enjoyed significant interest from visitors who were often asking specific questions meaning that they were already familiar with this waterway. The quiz on Polish waterways, including the E70 International Waterway and the Zulawy Loop, prepared by the Polish National Tourist Office in Berlin also confirmed this. Those who answered the questions correctly were rewarded the Zulawy Loop towels, among other gifts.
