The Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship presented the current results of work on the Study of the course of the International Waterway E70 on the Oder – Vistula section regarding activities carried out by spatial planning services of the Lubuskie, Wielkopolskie and Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeships, which includes drawing up an Analysis of spatial, environmental and physiographic conditions. The document is to be ready by the end of 2019. It is worth mentioning that in 2018, the first stage of the above-mentioned Study was completed, in which an analysis was made of the conditions of functioning of the Oder-Vistula waterway and its adaptation to the AGN Convention requirements.
The meeting also discussed the continuation of cooperation between signatories of the IWW E70 agreements for revitalisation of the Polish section of IWW E70 for the years 2020-2022, the Programme Declaration for the years 2021-2025, and expected challenges, which should be an area of special interest, such as climate changes and the phenomenon of hydrological drought, as well as the restoration of depth parameters on waterways and hydrotechnical facilities to their navigability classes, as these are crucial for the development of inland waterway transport. Another challenge will be to monitor the repair of 22 locks on the waterway connecting the Oder River with the Vistula, to eliminate so-called “bottlenecks”, i.e. overgrowing of the riverbed and narrowing of navigation routes with water plants, shoals, and damaged groynes. Another important topic in further cooperation between the Lubuskie, Wielkopolskie, Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Pomorskie and Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeships will be preparation of a study of the course of the International Waterway E70 on the Oder-Vistula section.
