Traditionally, a meeting was held before the sailing season on the Żulawy Loop to mark its start. It was organised by the Marshal’s Office of Pomorskie Voivodeship and the Żuławy Association and took place on 20 March at Żuławy Historical Park in Nowy Dwór Gdański.
The discussion focused on safety on waterways and improving the conditions for navigation. In the first part, the authorities responsible for the administration and maintenance of the waterways reported on the status of the implementation of the requests and demands made at the meeting in December that summed up the previous season.
The main points discussed were:
- Increasing safety on waterways to reduce non-compliance with navigation regulations,
- Removing obstructions to navigation, including the restoration of operation of drawbridges,
- Improving navigational markings in the Vistula Lagoon and enhancing the accessibility of the water body to the estuaries of rivers flowing into it,
- Improving the operation of locks and drawbridges.
The meeting was conducted in a substantive and businesslike manner. It is satisfying to see that it is possible to correct and change many of the problems and issues reported. This is emphasised by the very representatives of ship-owners and operators in the Żuławy Loop area.
