The World Canals Conference took place in Bydgoszcz from 24 to 26 June this year. It focused on the development and operation of canals and inland waterways. The event was attended by guests from all over the world with a strong representation of delegates from the United States and the United Kingdom, who are the initiators of these annual meetings.
The event consisted of main sessions and parallel panels comprising “People and their heritage”, “Water, heritage and tourism” and “Ecology and technology”. Of particular interest were lectures related to the revitalisation and development of old canals and conditions of navigation on waterways. To end each day, the organisers prepared a set of tours that allowed participants to gain a practical understanding of the Bydgoszcz Water Junction.
Members of the IWW E70 Team also gave a lecture at the conference. Justyna Gostkowska-Kunert addressed the main panel with a lecture entitled “The importance of water management for ensuring food security”. Then Rafał Wasil, in the panel “Water, heritage, tourism”, presented issues related to the topic “Friendly navigation on the Polish section of the IWW E70”. Both lectures aroused high interest among conference participants.
During the event, the IWW E70 Team presented its offer by staging a promotional stand. It stood out not only for its arrangement, but above all for the offer presented.
The visit at WCC2024 was a success. The organisers arranged the event professionally, thanks to which the guests left Bydgoszcz satisfied and richer in knowledge of their passion for inland waterways.
