The Martwa Wisła is the left estuary arm of the Vistula from the lock in Przegalina (936 km) to Gdańsk. The Martwa Wisła is a Vb class river, allowing navigation for vessels with a draft of up to 3 m. It is 28 km long, of which almost 6 km is internal seawater. There is usually a lot of traffic on the river, there are a lot of marinas and harbours – with one of the largest on Polish inland waterway in Błotnik, built as part of the “Żuławy Loop” project.
On our way, we pass, among others, a marina for a shipyard producing luxury Galeon yachts, huge tanks and installations of the Gdańsk Refinery, an impressive – almost 100-meter high – cable-stayed bridge, shipyards, the Wisłoujście fortress and the Westerplatte monument. We can also sail on the Motława River to the Old Town or to the estuary section of the Wisła Śmiała.
