Recently the Żuławy Loop has been enhanced with further elements of infrastructure. Their creation, reconstruction or conversion significantly contribute to improving the conditions of use on waterways in this area.
For water sports enthusiasts, planning to explore more parts of the inland of the Żuławy Loop, well known among tourists and sportsmen, from this year a new section to explore appears on the map. It’s the Tuga River, which thanks to reconstructed bridges (lift or drawbridge) in Tujsk, Żelichowo and Nowy Dwór Gdański, is again open for boats after more than 40 years.
As part of the project “Development of water tourism in the area of Żuławy Loop and Gdańsk Bay”, the Nowy Dwór County government has planned four investments. Three of these have been completed: the reconstruction of the bridge in Tujsk, reconstruction of the bridge in Żelichowo and construction of a sailing marina by the County Starost Office in Nowy Dwór Gdański. The Nowy Dwór marina in so-called ‘Venetian’ style consists of a 36-metre mooring platform equipped with pedestals with a hydro-electric connection along the surface wall of the marina, rebuilt the ground floor premises of the County Starost Office for the needs of the seasonal harbour master with unattended toilets, showers and large drying room. The terrain around the marina and the terrace with a surface of ca. 300 m2 have also been redeveloped, including shelters with picnic tables.
The ceremony was attended by Bogdan Borusewicz, Vice-Marshal of the Polish Senate, Ryszard Świlski, senator, Leszek Czarnobaj, senator, as well as representatives of the County Starost Office in Nowy Dwór Gdański, the Regional Board of Water Management in Gdańsk, the Office of Inland Navigation and the Maritime Office in Gdynia. During the official opening of the Tuga Marina, young performers of the Marta Kozakiewicz Artistic Studio gave a concert of shanties.
The investments amounted to a value of nearly 12.5 million PLN, of which 85% was financed by funds of the Regional Operational Program for Pomorskie Voivodeship for the years 2014-2020.
Renovation of the historic swivel bridge in Rybin is planned to be completed by the end of this year – but that is on the neighbouring river Szkarpawa. The execution of this undertaking will allow sailors, kayakers and motorboaters to have unobstructed access down the Tuga River to Nowy Dwór Gdański.
On 16 June of this year, the official opening of the over 10-kilometre Tuga waterway was held. Mieczysław Struk, Marshal of Pomorskie Voivodeship, stated: I’m glad that thanks to this investment, the river is again open to navigation after 40 years. I heartily invite all to discover from the water the historic buildings and scenery of this part of Żuławy Wiślane. Sailors will be able to admire not only the beautiful views but also various historic buildings.
